Our Members

The XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza members generously volunteer their time and assistance. None of our members are compensated monetarily. The valuable time, talent, and work of all the members of the organization are voluntarily contributed. Our volunteers help us accomplish everything from fundraising, to website maintenance, to public awareness. Our members are very passionate about helping improve the lives of the many families affected by Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

Board of Directors

The XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza (XP Light of Hope Group) Board of Directors is responsible for governing the organization’s functional status as a legal charitable nonprofit entity. The XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza Board of Directors plan for the organization’s growth and long-term stability. They oversee the organization’s operations and make sure the management of the organization remains consistent with the organization’s mission. The Board of Directors are members of our organization who generously volunteer their time and assistance.
The General Directors, or more commonly known as The Officers of The Board of Directors, include President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
The Directors-at-Large, also known as Members-at-Large, are members of the Board of Directors, other than the Officers.

The Executive Committee consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and at least one Director-at-Large.

President and Founder

Fátima Pérez

The President is the Chief Executive Officer. She is responsible for general management and sees that the business of the organization is sustained.

Fatima is a survivor of this severe and complex rare genetic disease. All the pain, sorrow, and suffering caused by Xeroderma Pigmentosum could not stop Fatima from fulfilling her dream of creating the non-profit charitable organization XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza. Providing resources to meet the needs of people from many cultures, especially Latin American families, brings great joy and satisfaction to Fatima.

XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza was incorporated as of June 8, 2012.

Vice-President

Vice-President of the Spanish-American Press Congress Editor-in-room and social page, The Hispanic Voice of NY. Founder of TraDraCo Theatre Company, Inc. in Queens. Producer and host radio program: Themes and Cachivaches (Sundays 7 to 8 am,station wkdm) With her power of speech and successful career in the public media, Lissette Montolío is a great support for the Light of Hope Group organization.
Health Coordinator

Virginia Quezada

Virginia holds a master's degree in college management and teaching. A degree in Nursing and Oncology Nurse with years in Surgical Specialty.

Facilitator of methodological training. Due to her experience in the health area, Virginia is a valuable ally for the XP Light of Hope Group organization.
Secretary

Naira Marte

The Secretary attends all meetings of the Board of Directors and records all the
proceedings.

organization. She sees that the reports, statements and other documents required by
law are properly maintained and filed with the appropriate agencies.
Naira Marte is a Technology Assistant. Technician in accounting finance. And she has
an Associate's degree in business management. Teacher of etiquette and protocol.
Due to her knowledge on business, Naira is a great support to the XP Light of Hope
Group organization.

Dr. Kevin Cranmer

Dr. Kevin Cranmer is a comprehensive ophthalmologist practicing in southeast Connecticut. He received his medical training at Harvard Medical School. After an internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center,

Dr. Kevin Cranmer is a comprehensive ophthalmologist practicing in southeast Connecticut. He received his medical training at Harvard Medical School. After an internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center, he completed a residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He has been the Chairman of Ophthalmology at The William W. Backus Hospital and Windham Hospital.

Dr. Cranmer practices in the areas of cataract and refractive surgery, medical and surgical glaucoma, oculoplastics, and neuro-ophthalmology, and sees both adults and children. He is married and has three daughters and a poodle named Max.

Dr. Cranmer joined XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza in 2017.

Treasurer

Michele Bassetti

Michele earned an Associate degree at Johnson and Wales College in Providence, RI. She has been involved in many ministries to help friends and families in need in her community.

She has experience in Nonprofit Administration, Retail Merchandising, Banquet and Food Service, and Healthcare. Due to Michele’s experience and dedication to helping others; she is a great support to XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza.

Dr. James Sanborn

Dr. James Sanborn, OD, specializes in optometry in Waterford, CT. His areas of medical specialty include ocular disease, contact lens fitting, dry eye management, and providing low vision services

Dr. James Sanborn, OD, specializes in optometry in Waterford, CT. His areas of medical specialty include ocular disease, contact lens fitting, dry eye management, and providing low vision services for individuals with reduced vision. Dr. Sanborn has presented research posters and lectured at state
meetings and organization annual meetings.

Born and raised in New Hampshire, Dr. Sanborn moved to Connecticut in 2013. His hobbies include playing guitar and piano, woodworking, and exploring the seacoast as well as more adventurous activities such as skiing, mountain biking, surfing, and paragliding.

Dr. Sanborn became a member-at-large of the XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza, Board of Directors in 2019. He has been a dedicated volunteer supporting our charitable cause with his time, energy, and friendship since we started in 2012.

Dr. Mary Beaulieu

Dr. Mary Beaulieu obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the American International College in Springfield, MA in 1984 and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston,

Dr. Mary Beaulieu obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the American International College in Springfield, MA in 1984 and earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA in 1988. She also went on to do an elective residency program at the Brockton/West Roxbury VA hospital after graduation.

Although she is a western Massachusetts native, she has called East Lyme, CT her home for the last 20 years. Dr. Beaulieu has worked in various eye care offices before associating with Professional Opticians and opened Professional Eyecare, LLC in 2009. She also owns a business which consults to nursing homes and does home care visits. Dr. Beaulieu served as a board member of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists and on the board of directors for the Women's Shelter of Southeastern CT.

Dr. Beaulieu became a member-at- large of the XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza, Board of Directors in 2019. She has been a dedicated volunteer supporting our charitable cause with her time, energy, and friendship since we started in 2012.

Clinical Board of Advisors

The XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza (XP Light of Hope Group) Clinical Board of Advisors are experts who have worked extensively with persons diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosum.  Team members provide our organization with a wide range of clinical consultation and program oversight for our outreach efforts, assistance services, and development of training materials.  The Clinical Board of Advisors are team members carefully selected by the organization’s President to coordinate with our organization’s leaders and members.  The highly skilled professionals of our Clinical Board of Advisors are members of our organization who generously volunteer their time and expert clinical assistance.

The XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza (XP Light of Hope Group) Clinical Advisory Team has served as expert clinical advisors to the XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza since 2012.

Dr. W. Clark Lambert MD, is a Professor of Dermatology, Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pathology in Rutgers - New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ. His special research interests include clinical Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Cutaneous Lymphomas and Genodermatoses associated with DNA repair deficiencies, including Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

Muriel Lambert, PhD is a NIH funded investigator and researcher of diseases with a predisposition to develop cancer with a DNA repair defect, such as Xeroderma Pigmentosum.

She is an Associate Member of the Genomic Instability and Cancer Genetics Program. Dr. Lambert is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. She has been an expert clinical advisor to the XP Light of Hope Group since 2012.

Kirssy Bautista

Kirssy received a degree in Political Science and Public Policy from The City College of New York (CUNY). She has worked in various organized movements seeking relief for undocumented immigrants.

Her passion and unconditional support are very valuable to XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza. She joined XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza in 2011.

Kirssy was honored with the Outstanding Service to The XP Community Award in 2015.

Gail Bloom

Gail M. Bloom, OTR/L, MA, OTD is an educator, manager, clinician, and advocate. Dr. Bloom has extensive teaching experience in both traditional campus programs and on-line virtual classrooms.

Gail M. Bloom, OTR/L, MA, OTD is an educator, manager, clinician, and advocate. Dr. Bloom has extensive teaching experience in both traditional campus programs and on-line virtual classrooms. She is a professor of health policy and health systems management for several prominent universities. Dr. Bloom is recognized for clear identification of problems and efficient practical solutions with awareness of needs of clients throughout the lifespan. She has provided medical and mental health agencies with administrative and clinical services and consultation. Gail is an active volunteer with several nonprofit organizations.
Gail is a great support to the XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza volunteering as an Executive Advisor assisting with all aspects of planning and development. She has been an expert organizational advisor to the XP Light of Hope Group since 2012.
Gail was honored with the XP Light of Hope Group Leadership as a Community Health Advocate Award in 2015.

Analeh serves as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) and Yankee Gas (YG), providing families with an array of community services and educational presentations.

El Show de Analeh, a dream production turned into a reality, continues to entertain and inform the Latino community with innovative topics in Univision, channel 18 on Saturdays at 11:00 am.

With her power of assembly and her successful show, Analeh Alfaro is a great support for the XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza.

Josefina Cruz

Josefina Abreu was an excellent volunteer at the beginning of training before the organization was formally established. XP Grupo Luz de Esperanza recognized Josefina with a Light of Hope Award for her dedication to the XP community in 2015
